Greeting Card Design Tips

Do you need a personal touch with your customers and clients?  Whether it’s a big holiday or you've been keeping up with customer information such as birthdays or an anniversary, greeting card printing is a great way to make a highly personal contact with your customer.

When you are ready to design or do your own greeting card printing, there are a number of important aspects of which you need to be aware:

1. Proper paper – You will need to use card stock or photo paper.  This is important as the last thing you want to do is have your customers pull a flimsy greeting card out of the envelope.  Using the proper paper will also ensure that your colors and design look like you want them to look.

2. Full color – Please do not send your customers a black and white greeting card.  Unless your brand explicitly utilizes a black and white look and feel, you need to have full color greeting card printing.

3. Logo and branding – Take advantage of this opportunity to put your logo in front of them.  Reinforce your brand in as many ways that you can, including color schemes and general look and feel.

4. Appropriate content – If you are sending a seasonal card, make sure to acknowledge the holiday and connect your company to the spirit of the season.  Customers come from all different kinds of backgrounds, so be careful with your selection of content as the last thing you want to do is offend a customer or client.

5. Embellishments – Consider adding pop-ups, glitter, or even sound to your cards.  The extra expense can be worth it.  If you are only sending out about one greeting card to all your customers, consider these embellishments as you’re getting one opportunity to expose your company to your customer.

6. Professional polish – Do not underestimate the power of a professional designer.  If you need to save money, design the card on your own and have a professional review it.  You might be amazed how a professional can provide a few little tips to bring that extra polish you needed.
